Our supplier of LED’s towards Optodrive, signs a cross license!
Seoul Semiconductors have recently signed a cross license agreement, which includes providing its owned white LED related patents to other party, and a long-term Supply Agreement with CREE (World leading LED chip supplier, located in U.S.A,).
In other words, it is a strategic alliance, which includes a license grant to Cree under Seoul Semiconductor’s patent relating to white LED technology and also Seoul Semiconductor is granted a license to patent rights to Cree’s white LED-related technology (Cree’s ‘175 patent, etc.) for the purpose of expanding white LED-related business and Market position.
“As our business continues to grow, it is important to align with other industry leaders. Reaching this Cross License Agreement and long-term supply agreement with Cree provides access to leading LED technology. Also our partnering on wider technologies paves the way for added success in future applications,” commented Chung H. Lee, Seoul Semiconductor’s president. “With the Cree technology, Seoul Semiconductor is positioned for further expansion of our business.”
“We are pleased to announce these agreements with Seoul Semiconductor, which are the results of several years of strong cooperation between our two companies to win market share for white LEDs. Our success to date has been mostly focused on design wins in the Korean market and we look to further to expand this success on a worldwide scale over the next several years,” commented Chuck Swoboda, Cree’s chairman and chief executive officer.
CREE is the world leading manufacturer of light emitting dies that are being used to create white light out of LED’s. Seouls Semiconductors are the ninth biggest manufacturer of HB-LED and one of the biggest in the POWERLED segment. This relationship will benefit us all by giving us the opportunity to develop and supply light in tensed LED solutions with less energy consumption.
